Policy Advocacy - Riding Groups
Objectives | Advocacy TrainingWhat is a Riding Group?
A Riding Group is an active Advocacy team that executes on strategies local to its Riding. Under the guidance of a Team Leader, and with support from the CJPME Riding Group Coordinator, the Riding Group will meet and communicate regularly with its local MP, keeping them aware of the hot issues of of importance to the CJPME constituency. Riding Groups commit to meeting with their local MPs at least twice annually.
What kind of support does a Riding Group get?
Every Riding Group member is an integral part of the CJPME Policy Advocacy team. Riding Group leaders and members must undergo training. Training is also required with each new policy thrust, typically once in the Spring, and once in the Fall. If you live in a city with an active CJPME branch, you can participate in CJPME’s Task Force meetings, where we strategize and plan initiatives together. At these meetings, Riding Group teams share their experiences with recent local advocacy efforts, and plan upcoming initiatives.
The full strength of the CJPME organization supports the policy initiatives, with – among other things: 1) comprehensive, yet concise resources from the Research and Analysis group, 2) media support and promotion by the Media task force, and 3) coordination of initiatives with the Community Relations group.
